WHO MAKES THE

TELUS Fund's Board of Directors is responsible for all funding decisions.

There are four steps to apply for financing

STEP 1. CHECK ELIGIBILITY

MAKE SURE YOU ARE AN ELIGIBLE APPLICANT
  • Has experience in producing comparable Programming.
  • Is a for-profit taxable corporation as defined by Canada’s Income Tax Act.
  • Is headquartered in Canada and Canadian controlled, as defined in Sections 26 to 28 of the Investment Canada Act.
  • Owns all necessary rights to create, produce, distribute, and exploit the project throughout the world in all manners, languages, and media, and on all platforms and devices for at least 24 months at the development stage and 60 months at the production and post-launch stages.

Can an emerging production company apply?

Eligible Applicants must be experienced in the business of producing comparable programming. An emerging production company can meet this requirement by including an experienced Producer or Executive Producer on the project team or forming a co-production with an established company.

Can a not-for-profit organization apply for funding?

No, only for-profit organizations are eligible to apply for financing.

WORKING ON AN ELIGIBLE PROJECT
  • Is a scripted or unscripted TV program, feature-length film or web series.
  • Addresses well-being issues that matter to millions of Canadians in the central storyline or in sub-plots.
  • Is produced in English and/or French and certified as Canadian content by the CRTC, Telefilm Canada or CAVCO.
  • Includes ample Complementary Content to help develop the audience in Canada and deepen their experience (e.g.,
    short digital videos, learning resources).
  • Does not fall within the CRTC Program Categories of News, Reporting and Actualities or Sports.

Must programming be available in both English and French languages?

No, but projects with commitments from platforms accessible to both languages are more competitive.

Do you finance well-being content in third languages?

Projects may include third languages, but the project must be available in either the English or French language.

Do you avoid certain health and wellness topics?

The program guidelines outline TELUS Fund’s definition of well-being, which encompasses a broad range of topics.

Do short films qualify as Programming?

Yes, but they may not be a good fit for funding. Refer to FAQs about the decision-making process for more details.
PRE-APROVAL WINDOW: Between March 24 and April 4, submit your Health Organization and Platform Support Forms to ensure eligibility.

Your story idea has already advanced to a script. Now you need financing to get ready for production.

Production

Your project is production ready. Now you need financing to create the content and drive audiences.

Post-Launch

Your project has already launched. Now you need financing to increase the reach and impact.
